Selector Infected WIXOSS Review (No Spoilers) 

 Disclaimer 1: This is a review without spoilers (duh) for those who want to see it without ruining the story, for those who want a full review (with the spoilers), i'm already doing a full review and the link will be ready soon.

    Synopsis: The Card Game WIXOSS has become very popular among the girls, among them, some girls (nicknamed Selector) are selected to compete aeach other with cards that have minds on their own called LRIG and if they win enough battles, the Selector will turn into "The Infinite Girl" which will have fulfilled a wish, any wish, however if you lose 3 times, your wish will not be fulfilled. The story revolves around Ruko Kominato who just received a LRIG (making her a Selector) named Tama who just wants to fight. Soon will delve into this fight to be the Infinite Girl and discover that there are very precious things that she doesn't want to lose.

  This is an anime that really promises, and being created by Mari Okada (who also created other animes like The pet girl of Sakurasou and Black Rock Shooter, just to name a few) and produced by JC Staff (who helped with the creation of other good anime like Nodame Cantabile, Shakugan no Shana, The Familiar of Zero, Aria the Scarlet ammo and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, again, just to name a few). Sure to be fair J. C. Staff has produced forgettable animes like Witch Craft Works, but thankfully this is not one of them and even perplexes and intrigue you the more you keep watching this story. 

 Also a quicknote that this is an anime based on a card game (that came out in the same month as this anime), meaning that this anime could have been made to mercandise the game, but personally, I think this anime decided to not focus on the card game and more on the plot.

Now, if the first thing you think while listening the words "anime based on a card game" is Yu-Gi-Oh! Well I have good news and bad news: The bad news is that yes, this will remember you Yu-Gi-Oh! In the sense that much of the action unfolds in card duels and in that the most important thing happens during those (well not every important stuff but it does to the most tense ones). The good news is that unlike Yu-Gi-Oh! The story is quite solid to the point that the most important thing (to some extent) is not wrapped around the cards but more into the history, to the point that you care about the cards (since they have mind of their own, very likeables as well) the story is not totally wrapped around them (since the human characters are also likeable, well... most of them) and what happens to them (In example: at the beggining of the anime there is one character that I just wanted to shut up, but in the end of the season that same character was among those I was invested the most). 

  This anime did so many things well (aside animation is among the best I've seen personally, there is no bad moment bad drawed or poorly made) and I'll try to say a few to clarify my point: 

1.- The intro and the ending are one of the things you will enjoy to hear the most (in a good way, trust me, and you'll enjoy listening them, since they blend with the anime in an excellent way) in fact, do not be surprised repeat that intro (called Killy killy Joker, sung by Kanon) a few times before seeing the episode, is of the type of songs you often likes to hear especially if you like the harmony in it (is almost as if the song was made only for this anime since the lyrics are very meaningful with the plot itself), you will enjoy it more and more, not only that. The ending is also good, called Realize - Yume no Basho Matsuo (so is the name that means more or less "realize - wait for place of dreams) that is (or sounds since I cannot find lyrics of this song, but it will be updated when found) most moving and tragic which is another part of the story of this anime. Basically both the intro and the ending help with composition of the story which give us not only a better idea of ​​the emotional style that will give us but also compliments our way of thinking... that somehow reminds me Madoka Magica ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTdBIckOehA&feature=kp The ending of the anime, initiating in an emotional way but at the same time leaves you thinking (which is very usual for the way in which each episode ends in this series) moving at a pace that sounds more hopeful and upbeat (sorry, but I cannot find lyrics in english). 

2.- The lack of Fanservice: Now, before you decide to flame on me, let me explain. A serious problem in several anime (like The familiar, Kanokon, Chibi Vampire and almost any ecchi anime that doesn't have a good plot) is that they tend to use the fanservice (like showing scantily clad women, to say the least) to engage the audience, to the point that normally you see the anime just for the fanservice (of course in Americe you got censorship... lucky bastards, I'm from venezuela btw, if you're wondering), which I personally thinks it severely damage the anime in general and I also think that a good anime doesn't need fanservice to engage the public, there may be fanservice, but can be kept to a minimum or null and still be able to make a great story. For example: Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Death Note, Code Geass, Danganronpa The animation, Shakugan no Shana (that I remember) are the best examples that come to my head when I think of this (anime with a good story and fanservice putted to a minimum) as fanservice maintained to a minimum or almost zero I think in C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control (one of my favorite anime as well). And, with this lack of fanservice, it still manage to give a story that hooks you from start to finish and you will not be missing that fanservice (which is a plus for this anime). 

3.- Character development: The characters start in a casual way, as you are introduced to them throughout the anime (or suddenly/subtly to the point where you forget about their existence until you return to see the picture from the beginning and see that they are there) and yet they are developed in a good way (especially considering that anime normally give us between 12 to 13 episodes for character development, which sometimes can be very short for us, but this is not the case here) because each episode give us a good time to spend with the characters, both in person and from the point of view of secondary characters, the only example I'll give is this: certain character whose voice is very annoying and it can really annoy you for her being a light headed is developed in a way that will make you admire her (and you will know who I mean * wink *), I will not say neither show you almost anything to avoid giving any kind of spoilers, except that the characters that you must like, you end up liking them, and the characters you must hate, you will wish that they had never been conceived. 

4.- Story Development: This may be my opinion, but I think that the greatest strength of this anime, the story, is excellent, you want to know why? Simple: this anime is possibly to market a card game of the same name that came out around the same time that this anime in Japan. The anime, in terms of promoting the actual game, fails (in my opinion), but the anime has a story with enough substance to not only hook you in it, but also makes you want to see more, and (again) in a good way, usually something that many animes do is to end mandatory hooks (a boring episode and when the kicker is about to come, the episode ends, so you'll want to watch the next episode to see how the story continues, to show only 5 minutes from it and come back to give us another boring episode), however Selector Infected WIXOSS despite finishing in hooks, the next episode gives us more to see, more to enjoy, we hooked from start to end and it hook us to see the next episode simply because they ran out of time. And again, I won't say anything to avoid giving any spoilers. 

  Does this anime have problems? Yes, a few, but none that would keep you from fully enjoy it (well maybe one (take a guess, is not very hard to figure out and you will see it from the beggining), but then they do something that you don't see coming and then you want to see what happen next with that), the only thing keeping it to be among my favorites (and that really bothers me, but not too much) is the fact that ended in a hook for next season, I'm sure they had planned to do since the very beggining (seriously, watch the intro, as the anime begins and ends and other details that I cannot mention (spoilers) and you will understand what I mean with this being planned to have a second season since day one) which I think is unnecessary, because a good anime is able to make us want to watch more and still give us a satisfying ending (Dragon Ball Z, FMA: Brotherhood and Danganronpa The Animation are the best examples that comes to my head) but that does not mean that the end of the first season is bad in any sense, watch it and you will understand. 

In Conclusion: This is an anime that I recommend and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do, this first season has not only been one of the best stories I've seen since it that shows you do not need fanservice and stuff like that to provide an intriguing story but also it can have characters that you will get very invested (hay, even the ones you'll hate, you'll still want to know them more).

   Sinopsis:  El juego de cartas WIXOSS se ha vuelto muy popular entre las chicas, entre ellas están las Selector, chicas seleccionadas para poder competir junto a unas cartas con mente propias llamadas LRIG y si la Selector logra ganar suficientes peleas y cumple un requisito, se convertirá en “La Chica Infinita” a la cual se le cumplirá un deseo -Sin excepciones- sin embargo, si pierdes 3 veces, el deseo no se cumplirá; Ruko Kominato acaba de recibir una LRIG (lo que convierte a Ruko en una Selector) llamada Tama que solo está interesada en pelear otras LRIG, Ruko pronto se adentrará en esta pelea por ser la Chica Infinita y descubrirá que tiene cosas muy preciadas que no quiere perder.

 Este es un anime que realmente promete, ya con que haya sido creado por Mari Okada creadora de otras obras como Sakurasou no pet na Kanojo y Black Rock Shooter solo para nombrar unos cuantos y producido por J.C. Staff, quienes ayudaron con la creación de otros buenos anime como Nodame Cantabile, Shakugan no Shana, Zero no Tsukaima, Aria the Scarlet ammo y Sakurasou no pet na Kanojo, de nuevo, solo para nombrar unos cuantos. Claro que para ser justos J.C. Staff ha hechos algunos animes olvidables como Witch Craft Works, pero por suerte este no es uno de ellos ya que incluso el inicio te deja perplejo e intrigado con el qué va a estar pasando en esta historia.

 Ahora, si lo primero que piensas al escuchar de juego de cartas es Yu-Gi-Oh! Pues te tengo buenas y malas noticias: La mala noticia es que si recuerda a Yu-Gi-Oh! En el sentido de que mucha de la acción se desenvuelve en el juego de cartas y es ahí cuando lo más importante ocurre. La buena noticia es que a diferencia de Yu-Gi-Oh! La historia es bastante sólida al punto de que lo más importante no se envuelve en torno a las cartas sino en la historia, donde te importarán las LRIG (ya sabrás cuales) por la historia envuelta a ellas y la relación que tienen con sus Selectors.

 Este anime ha hecho, en mi opinión, muchas cosas bien (entre ellas la animación, que está entre las mejores que he visto personalmente) y voy a intentar de explicar algunas cuantas para dejar en claro mi punto:

1.     El intro y el ending son una de las cosas que vas a disfrutar mucho (en el buen sentido) es más, que no te extrañe repetir ese intro (llamado Killy killy Joker, cantado por Kanon), es del tipo que a menudo que lo oyes, te va gustando cada vez más y más, ya que la canción está ampliamente relacionada con la historia en la que se ambienta el anime (los que lo hayan visto y leído la lírica entenderán a qué me refiero), el ending también es bueno, llamado Realize - Yume no Matsuo Basho (así es el nombre que significa mas o menos "darse cuenta - el lugar espera por sueños) que es mas emotiva y trágica, que es otra parte de la historia de este anime.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTdBIckOehA&feature=kp El ending del anime, iniciando de una manera emotiva pero a la vez que te deja pensando (que es muy usual por la forma en la que terminan los capítulos de esta serie) avanzando a un ritmo que suena mas esperanzador y animado.

2.     La falta de Fanservice: Ahora, antes de que decidan echarme arena, déjenme explicarme. Un serio problema de varios anime (como Zero no Tsukaima, Kanokon, Karin (Chibi Vampire) y casi cualquier anime ecchi) es que tienden a usar el fanservice (como mostrar mujeres con poca ropa, para decir menos) para poder enganchar a la audiencia, al punto de que normalmente uno ve el anime solo por el fanservice, lo cual personalmente daña severamente al anime en general ya que no se necesita fanservice para poder enganchar al público, puede haber fanservice, pero se puede mantener al mínimo o casi nulo y aun así poder hacer una historia enganchante y genial. Por ejemplo: Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Death Note, Code Geass, Danganronpa The animation, Shakugan no Shana (que yo recuerde) son los mejores ejemplos que se me vienen a la cabeza cuando pienso en esto, ya que mantienen el fanservice al mínimo o es casi nulo como en C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control. Sin embargo, a pesar de la falta de fanservice, logran dar una historia que te engancha de principio a fin y no te va a importar que falte el fanservice.

3.     El desarrollo de los personajes: Los personajes inician de una manera casual, te los introducen como en todo anime: O súbitamente, o de tan sutilmente que te habías olvidas de ellos hasta que vuelves a ver el anime desde el principio; sin embargo son desarrollados a un buen paso (en tiempo anime ya que solo nos dan entre 12 a 13 episodios para desarrollarlos, lo cual a veces los puede desarrollar muy súbitamente o nulamente, pero este no es el caso aquí) ya que cada episodio se nos va mostrando cada vez más lo que pasan los personajes, tanto en primera persona como desde el punto de vista de los personajes secundarios, el único ejemplo que voy a dar es este: cierto personaje cuya voz es muy molesta y realmente te puede molestar su actitud de cabeza hueca es desarrollada de una manera que hará que te encariñes con ella (ya sabrán a quién me refiero *guiño*), no diré ni mostraré más nada para evitar posibles spoilers excepto que los personajes que te deben agradar te agradan y los personajes que debes odiar desearás que jamás hubieran sido concebidas.

4.     El desarrollo de la historia: Lo que es en mi opinión la mayor fortaleza de este anime, la historia se desarrolla excelentemente, ¿quieren saber cuánto? Simple: este anime posiblemente sea para poder comercializar un juego de cartas del mismo nombre que salió casi al mismo tiempo que este anime en Japón. El anime no cuenta las reglas el juego, no cuenta cómo funciona (exactamente), y falla para comercializar el juego de cartas (en mi opinión) sin embargo el anime tiene una historia con suficiente substancia como para no solo engancharte en su historia, sino que te hace desear ver más, y (de nuevo) en el buen sentido, normalmente algo que muchos animes hacen es que terminan en ganchos obligatorios (un episodio aburrido y cuando viene lo bueno es cuando termina de manera que querrás ver el siguiente episodio para ver cómo continúa la historia solo para mostrarnos 5 minutos de ello y volver a darnos otro episodio aburrido), sin embargo Selector Infected WIXOSS a pesar de terminar en ganchos, al episodio siguiente nos da más que ver, más que disfrutar, nos engancha de principio a fin y termina en gancho no para obligarnos a ver el siguiente episodio (bueno, no del todo) sino porque simplemente se les acabó el tiempo, de nuevo, no diré más nada para evitar dar posibles spoilers.

 ¿Este anime tiene problemas? Si, unos cuantos, pero ninguno que evitara que lo disfrutara completamente, lo único que evita que esté entre mis favoritos (y que me molesta de verdad, aunque no tanto) es el hecho que terminó en un gancho para la siguiente temporada, que estoy seguro de que tenían planeada hacer en un principio (en serio, vean el intro, como empieza el anime, como termina y otros detalles que no puedo mencionar (spoilers) y entenderán a que me refiero con que lo tenían planeado hacer la segunda temporada en un principio) lo cual me parece innecesario, porque un buen anime es capaz de hacernos desear más y aun así darnos un final satisfactorio (Dragon Ball Z, FMA: Brotherhood y Danganronpa The animation son los mejores ejemplos que se me vienen a la cabeza), pero eso no quiere decir que el final de la primera temporada es malo en ningún sentido, veánla y entenderán.

En Conclusión: este es un anime que recomiendo y espero que todos disfruten tanto como yo, esta primera temporada no solo ha sido una de las mejores historias que he visto sino que también muestra que no se necesita fanservice ni esas cosas por el estilo para poder proveer una historia intrigante.
